A common stepping stone on the path to teaching yourself how to develop games is making a clone. Tetris, Pacman, Pong are among the many games cloned as developers struggle to figure out the hell is going on. I decided this was the best way to get myself acquainted with 3D graphics. Thus, I present to you a clone of the classic SNES game Super Bomberman, cheesily entitled:

What is Bomberman?

Super Bomberman, originally released on SNES(and based off regular Bomberman, which goes back even further), had and still has some of the most addicting multiplayer action. Up to four players are pitted against each other in a rectangular grid covered with different kinds of blocks. Each player has a stock of bombs, and the object of the game is to use your bombs to clear a path through the blocks, and strategically trap and destroy your opponents.

My goal with Blammo Guy is to make a game in 3D that plays exactly like the original Super Bomberman. I stress that because other (profesional!) 3D versions of the game have been released, but changed the classic gameplay into lame platform jumping games...with bombs. Blammo Guy features a 3D topdown view that really doesn't NEED to be 3D. Like I said, its for ME to learn.

System Requirements

Short Answer: If you can play other 3D video games, then Blammo Guy should run. Just make sure you have DirectX 9.0 or higher.

I did the best I could, but you are going to see performance issues if you have an old video card. The lowest system config I had tested the game on was an 800 mhz processor with a Geforce2. If you play the game with lesser processor OR an older video card, let me know how it performed, please!

Download:

I've provided two links. One is with music, the other without. Only download without music if you're on a crappy connection. Heh, actually, 7.5 megs is still pretty rough for a modem. Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. In any event, you can drop your own mp3s into the music folder of both versions to play your own songs in game.

Blammo Guy (no music) 7.5 MB

Download the latest DirectX: here. This is required to play Blammo Guy. If you get a "missing dll" error, I'm going to punch you in the FACE because you just need to download DirectX.
